14th Annual Gold Star Gala: Thursday, November 6, 2008

The Gold Star Gala is hosted by the Metroplex Health System Foundation Board. This is a great social event for the community to get together for a good time and support a worthwhile cause. All proceeds will benefit the Sue Mayborn Women's Center.

Mark your calendars for this premier black-tie event of the year: Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, 3601 South W. S. Young Drive.

This event offers first-class entertainment, gourmet dining, a raffle and live auction. This year's event will feature The Cornell Gunter Coasters, The Platters and Marvelettes!

19th Annual Spring Golf Classic Tournament

What a gorgeous, sunny day we had for the 19th Annual Spring Golf Classic at the Hills of Cove Golf Course! The event, which had 119 golfers this year, benefited the Sue Mayborn Women’s Center.

One notable participant was 89 year old retired Colonel Bud Bressler, husband of 25-year hospital volunteer Inez Bressler. Many of our administrative executives also participated, including President and CEO Ken Finch.

Those who had not picked up their clubs in a while were clamoring for professional pointers from the Gaddy Golf Academy. That’s because everyone wanted to make a hole-in-one on the 10th hole to win a car donated by Patriot Pontiac. The Barracuda Babes were on hand to monitor the 10th green, but no one was able to hit one of those once-in-a-lifetime drives.

However, Jeff Villanueva, VP of Rollins Brook Community Hospital was the proud winner of two door prizes, both of them golf bags, which he promptly re-donated so two other players could have a chance to win them. In all, we had 41 door prizes this year. The Heart O’Texas Federal Credit Union generously donated such raffle items as a set of Bazooka irons, a Cobra driver and a Tommy Armour putter.

The competition was fierce, so anticipation was high as play wound up. In the end, the Cody Day Team comprised of Bert Powell, Brett Powell, Jeff Powell and Cody Day, son of Metroplex radiologist Dr. Philip Day, took first place.

This year’s tournament was very successful, due in large part to our generous sponsors, including DPR Construction, Metroplex Health System Volunteers, architectural firm O’Connell Robertson, Zip Cleaners, Dennis Eakin Mazda/Kia and North American Credit Services.

We are already looking forward to next year's 20th annual tournament in May. Stay tuned for details on the date and location!
