Silver Classic 5K Run & Walk: May 4, 2008
They came running, walking and speed walking across the chip timing map in droves this year. There were 280 participants registered to run and walk in the 22nd Annual Silver Classic 5K Run/Walk. Prior to the start of the Run/Walk, participants of all ages enjoyed warming up with Michelle Frye from Jazzercise in Killeen. Those that needed a shot of caffeine lined up for flavored coffee from the Java Jolt mobile unit. Although our young runners and walkers did not make the overall category it was great to see them participate and practicing wellness habits.
Angel Ruemmely (17:37) and Cindy Samok (20:47) were the overall winners in the male and female runners categories. Alberto Medina (26:51) and Karol Curran (31:43) were the overall winners in the male and female walker categories.
Once the race was over we had lots of excitement giving away door prizes from our sponsors. Peloton Ridge Country Club provided the grand prize by giving away a family membership worth $744.00. The Ladies Workout Express donated one week membership coupons and coupons for body wraps. The Jazzercise folks donated a six month membership which generated a wild response from the winner. All of our sponsors were very generous this year and the crowd loved the prizes. Our sponsors this year were: Church’s Chicken; H-E-B; Southwind Runners Club; Applebee’s (Cove); Coca Cola; All State Insurance (Ira Brand); Jazzercise; Subway; Carlson Law Firm; Peloton Ridge Country Club; Killeen.com; Java Jolt; Ladies Workout Express; Texas Partners Credit Union; Calm Day Spa; Road ID; Outback Steakhouse; and Spectrum Printing.
