Nursing Internship Programs
We have closed the internship applications effective 10/14/2011 for applicants applying for the February Internship, due to an enormous outpouring of applicants in the first two weeks it was opened. We appreciate your interest in our Internship program and the ability to apply will occur again in the Spring of 2012 for the Internship starting in July.
Nursing Internships are available to Graduate Nurses or Nurses looking for a change.
Option A: Emergency Nursing Internship
Web-based internship utilizing Emergency Nurses Association program. This is a 12-week program that focuses on:

Major Trauma Emergencies

Medical and Surgical Emergencies

Special Patient Populations
Four weeks will be in the classroom and eight weeks unit preceptorship. Each day will consist of Web-based instruction and skills practice after the first week of general and nursing orientation.
Option B: TCU/Critical Care Nursing Internship
Web-based internship utilizing the American Academy of Critical Care Nursing Orientation program (ECCO). This is a 12-week program that prepares nurses for TCU/Critical Care, step--down or critical care nursing. This course incorporates a system approach that includes:

Option C: Maternal/Child Nursing Internship
Manual-based internship utilizing Intrapartum Management Modules by Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins. This is a 12-week program that prepares nurses for Maternal/Child care. This training focuses on the intrapartum period covering topics such as:

Maternal and Fetal Response to Labor

Induction and Augmentation of Labor

Intrapartum Fetal Monitoring

Hepatitis Infections

Delivery in the Absence of a Primary Provider

Intrapartum Partner Violence During Pregnancy

Caring for the Woman Undergoing an Instrumented or Operative Delivery and many more
Utilizing a side-by-side concept, the new graduate will have weekly assigned lessons in tandem with clinical rotations with selected preceptors for 12 weeks.
Option D: Perioperative Nursing Internship
Manual-based internship utilizing the standards of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. This is a six-month program that prepares nurses to scrub and circulate in the operating room. You must have 1-year Med/Surg Nursing experience. This course includes perioperative modules focusing on:
- Anesthesia
- Aseptic Technique
- Electrosurgery
- Endoscopic Surgery
- Fire in the Operating Room
- Isolation Precautions
- Laser Basics
- Laser Safety
- Malignant Hyperthermia
- Managing Latex Allergies
- Medications and Solutions
The first three weeks comprise the didactic portion of the program consisting of classroom lectures, lab skills practice, and observational experiences in the operating room. The remaining five months of the program are spent in Service-line rotations designed to familiarize the nurse intern with the various surgical specialties practiced at Metroplex Health System.
Option E: Medical-Surgical Nursing Internship
Web-based internship utilizing Florida Hospital's Echelon CCN Program. This is a 12-week program that prepares nurses for medical-surgical nursing. This course incorporates a system approach that includes:
