Metroplex Health System Foundation held its 14th Annual Gold Star Gala on Thursday, November 6th. The exotic, African safari evening entertained more than 450 guests and brought in over $100,000 in funds. Proceeds from the gala will help support the new, $9.2 million Sue Mayborn Women’s Center, scheduled to open summer 2009.
The adventurous night started with social hour and professional photography by Get the Picture in Austin. Guests then enjoyed a gourmet dinner catered by The Range at The Barton House in Salado. Throughout the evening, participants could purchase raffle tickets for the 32 raffle items donated by local businesses.
The largest bid during the live auction was for an African Safari Spiral Horn Hunt. The hunt was donated by Tex-Systems Cabling & Safari Club International Austin, which is a guided hunt for four people in South Africa with 5-star accommodations.
“The live auction was not only a great fundraising effort, but it also primed the crowd for the entertainment,” said Daphne Meade, Foundation Manager. Guests enjoyed music from the 60’s Motown trio – The Cornell Gunter’s Coasters, The Platters and The Marvelettes. “The bands were amazing,” Meade expressed. “I am thoroughly pleased with this event. Everything went so smoothly. This would not have been possible without the help from our Foundation Board members and the many volunteers.”
Metroplex President and CEO Ken Finch noted, “It is nice to know we live in a community that truly supports our hospital. We have had great support from our board members and employees, but the tremendous generosity we have seen from our community is overwhelming.”
The audience enjoyed a video presentation for the new women’s center. “It noted all the
highlights of the new center and explained how beneficial this all-inclusive health center will be for the women in our community.”
“With all the money raised and the effort behind the scenes, I cannot say thank you enough to those who made this event so successful,” Meade said. “I appreciate their hard work and
support.”
