FREE Classes

Asthma Management 
Asthma Management is lifetime knowledge in a one-hour class! The class is held the first Tuesday of every other month and open to everyone. For no cost, you and your child will learn how to:

  • Know & Avoid Asthma Triggers
  • Recognize Early Warning Signs of an Asthma Attack
  • Monitor Peak Flows
  • Understand the Purpose & Proper Use of Asthma Medications
  • Use Inhalers & Spacers Correctly
  • Follow an Asthma Action Plan

Cancer Cosmetology - Look Good, Feel Better
Look Good, Feel Better is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and is led by a cosmetologist. This support group is designed to inform and educate cancer patients about skin care and make-up, nail care and coping with hair loss. All participants will receive a complimentary make-up kit.

Arthritis Exercise 
Join our certified instructor who will lead chair exercises to help those with Arthritis move their way to feeling better!

Senior Exercise
Ages 55 & up! Achieve better health with this low-impact, weekly class. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

Diabetes Education
Gain a better understanding of diabetes and how you can control your blood sugar through healthy lifestyle habits.

Grief Recovery
Grief Recovery is designed to help you cope with the death of a relative or friend through the support group process. Metroplex Health System will provide you with an accepting climate while maintaining confidentiality and dignity.

Women's Health Classes

Teen Childbirth
A series of classes specifically designed to meet the special needs of teens and young, single expecting parents. A support person is encouraged to attend. Moms and their support persons will learn about the process of labor, birth and the coping strategies for labor. Also included is information about epidurals, c-section births, postpartum and the early newborn period.

Infant CPR
This program is designed to teach the core skills of CPR and relief of choking in an infant. It was developed in coordination with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The course kit contains a personal inflatable mini baby CPR practice manikin, a 22-minute practice DVD, a quick-reference guide, a practice phone, an extra mini baby lung and sanitizing wipes for the manikin.

Breast Feeding
This is a two-hour "How to Breastfeed" class for expectant moms who have decided to breastfeed their baby.

Childbirth (2-sessions and 4-sessions)
Each of the classes will cover a wide array of information. By the end of the series, you will know about the stages of labor, labor breathing techniques, pain management options, cesarean birth, postpartum care, breast feeding and newborn care.

Other Wellness Classes

Freedom From Smoking
Freedom from Smoking is sponsored by the American Lung Association and taught by a certified instructor. The classes will introduce you to healthier alternatives, offer you strategies to quit and prepare you to maintain a smoke-free lifestyle. This class offers a logical progression from awareness of smoking dependence to actual behavior change. 

CPR - Health Care Provider
This basic cardiac life support for healthcare personnel class teaches the learner how to support circulation until advanced life support arrives. Includes infant, child and adult CPR techniques, rescue ventilation, airway obstruction management and use of an AED.

AARP Defensive Driving
Two-day refresher course for those ages 55 or older. Completion of the course could earn you an insurance discount!
