The Metroplex Mobile Wellness Unit is a dream project that was realized through the fundraising efforts of the Metroplex Health System Foundation. The Foundation was asked to address specific needs in their primary service area. This challenge was met with great enthusiasm as foundation members set out to provide a solution that would focus on those who might not have access to healthcare, or the financial means to regularly seek medical attention. The result was the Mobile Wellness Unit.
The goal of the Wellness Unit is to provide preventative and primary healthcare to Central Texans, with special emphasis on rural, low income, pediatric and senior populations. Its primary service are is West Bell, Coryell and Lampasas counties.
The Mobile Wellness Unit is custom designed with all the equipment needed to provide adequate health screenings. Additionally, it has a dental examination chair and areas to display important health information. The unit is handicapped accessible with a easy-access wheelchair lift. The mobility of the unit enables it to have easy access to community events and travel to schools, churches and senior facilities.
