Metroplex Hosts Quarterly Health Screening April 1

KILLEEN — Imagine having your total cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure and body fat analysis tested, read and sent to your physician for only $20. Metroplex Wellness has revamped public health screenings to meet the needs of the communities we serve. Along with the four tests, each participant receives free nutrition and health information to help prevent these health issues.

The Wellness Department recently added a $20 fee for the glucose and cholesterol tests. At the screening, we ask all participants to complete an eligibility form to see if they qualify to receive a free screening. If a participant does not qualify for the free cholesterol and glucose tests, he or she may choose to pay the $20 fee or receive the blood pressure and body fat screening at no charge. The complete health screening remains free for any Metroplex Health System employee or volunteer and all Prime of Life members.

The quarterly screenings are a great way for anyone to stay informed about those critical health indicators and share their information with their physician during their annual visit. Our screenings are designed to inform the patient as well as the provider with accurate results. Participants receive a copy of their results, and a carbon copy is sent to their primary care provider (with permission). This is one of the extra services Metroplex Wellness is providing to participants.

Metroplex Wellness conducted a Community Health Needs Assessment last year and used it to help determine the focus of this year’s programs. As a result, the department will offer more women’s health classes, children’s immunization clinics and a wider variety of wellness classes throughout 2009.
