Metroplex Celebrates National Women’s Check-Up Day

KILLEEN — Metroplex Health System is joining the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health in celebrating National Women’s Check-up Day on May 11, 2009.

From 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Metroplex Ambulatory Surgery Center lobby (next to the new Sue Mayborn Women’s Center), women of all ages can come and enjoy a FREE! health check. The event is designed completely for women and will include bone density tests (DEXA), glucose testing, total cholesterol readings, blood pressure, height/weight and BMI/body fat analysis screenings. Diabetes education and educational information will also be available.

“Women tend to forget to take care of themselves or make their health a priority,” said Susan Kolodziejczyk, Executive Director of Community Relations. “We always put our families first, but on May 11th, let’s focus on your health. It’s your time, your day.”

National Women’s Check-up Day is the second day to the National Women’s Health Week, May 10-16. It is a nationwide initiative that calls attention to the importance of women’s health. Together we can raise awareness about women’s health issues and educate women about simple steps they can take for a longer, healthier and happier life.

In addition, the WOMAN Challenge, an eight-week online physical activity program, will be held May 10–July 4. For more information about National Women’s Health Week, please visit womenshealth.gov/whw. To learn more about Metroplex, please visit mplex.org or call 254.519.8200.
