Metroplex Survivor Dinner Honors, Raises Awareness

KILLEEN, TX (February 4, 2010) – Metroplex Health System will host a Love Your Heart dinner on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 to raise awareness and honor the survivors of heart disease.  The dinner, in partnership with the American Heart Association and Women Heart, will feature keynote speaker Carol Allred.  Allred, a Killeen native and President of Women Heart, is a heart attack survivor and travels nationally to raise awareness of the killer disease.

“The dinner, scheduled to include a complimentary health screening, will not only give Carol a vehicle to share her story, but will honor those in the community who have struggled with and overcome heart disease,” states Susan Kolodziejczyk, Executive Director of Community Relations. “We, at Metroplex Health System, are determined to raise awareness of this all-too-common ailment and help to stomp out heart disease.”

According to a study published by the American Heart Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cardiovascular disease accounted for over 34% of all deaths in the United States in 2006.  That is over 2,300 deaths a day, or 1 in every 2.9 deaths, being associated with heart disease.  “As a healthcare provider, Metroplex Health System understands the importance of prevention and early detection,” continues Kolodziejczyk.  “We want to give our community a jump start on living a healthier life through eating healthy food, receiving a regular health screening and listening to others tell their tale of how this disease can affect their lives.”

The Love Your Heart Dinner, starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 will be held at Metroplex Adventist Hospital in Conference Room 3.  Seating is limited, so please call 254-519-8200 to reserve your spot.
