Metroplex Health System Volunteers annually administer five scholarship programs. A selection committee is composed of at least five individuals: three volunteers and two employees. In 2008, a total of $8,000 in scholarships was awarded.
The scholarships are:
Begelman-Jacknowich Scholarship
- Donated by Dr. Terry Beal, a Metroplex doctor
- Recipient must be planning to enter a human health services career.
Asha and Balkrishna Bodas Scholarship
- Donated by Dr. Rishi, a Metroplex doctor, in honor of her parents
- Recipient must be an employee or child of an employee of Metroplex Health System and planning to pursue a career in either nursing or education.
Dot Hausmann Honorary Scholarship
- Donated by the Metroplex Health System Volunteers, which Mrs. Hausmann directed for 17 years
- Recipient must be planning a career in human health services.
Jimmie Smith Memorial Scholarships
- Donated by the Metroplex Health System Volunteers
- Recipient must be seeking a career in human health services.
Dr. Joseph Thoppil Memorial Scholarship
- Donated by the family of the late Dr. Joseph Thoppil, a beloved pediatrician at Metroplex
- Recipient must be planning a career in pediatrics as a physician or a nurse.
In February 2009, scholarship applications will be distributed to all area high school counselors. Application packets will also be available at the information desk at the front lobby of Metroplex and Rollins Brook Community hospitals. Applications must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2009. Winners of the scholarships will be notified no later than April 2009.
