Meet a Nurse

Clarissa Fielder, RN

TCU

Why did you choose this specialty?
"I decided the telemetry unit was the closest floor to the cardiac type of monitoring I did at a previous hospital."

What is your typical day like?
"We have a high turnover ratio of patients on TCU which keeps it busy and different."

What do you love most about your job?
"I love the people I work with on my regular days. We all have a great time and get along with each other very well. Teamwork here is very strong."

Douglas Staines, RN

Cardiac Rehab

Why did you choose this specialty?
"After enjoying a long tenure in the ER, I wanted to be able to continue helping patients in a different area. Metroplex and Cardiac Rehab presented this opportunity."

What is your typical day like?
"My day starts at 6:30 a.m. and I finish around 2:30 p.m. I see about 15-20 patients a day, and no more than 5-6 per session."

What do you love most about your job?
"The appreciation expressed by my patients that I was able to help them and make a positive change in their lives."

Gigi Love, RN

Pavilion-Behavioral Health Services

Why did you choose this specialty?
"I did not choose this specialty. I was chosen by a fellow RN who saw potential psychiatric nursing skills in me. She asked me to apply for this position, and I did. I must say, this specialty is my calling."

What is your typical day like?
"There is not a typical day. It can be calm one second and the next can be chaotic. There is a routine schedule to follow for activities that the RN has to make sure the patients adhere to. However, I come prepared to face a day of challenges!"

What do you love most about your job?
"My patients! Especially to see the progress in their mental status. Also, my co-workers because we work together as a great team!"

Ginger Henderson, RN

Nursing Administration

Why did you choose this specialty?
"As Special Projects Coordinator, I am able to assist with the development and maintenance of projects used to improve patient care and staff satisfaction."

What is your typical day like?
"I spend a lot of time working with others to improve systems."

What do you love most about your job?
"I am privileged to work with staff in many departments in addition to the nursing department. I not only enjoy working with them, but I am learning from them as well."

Grant Sitton, RN

Emergency Department

Why did you choose this specialty?
"I wanted a change from Med/Surg, and I had friends recommend I try the ER."

What is your typical day like?
"I start with a pre-shift meeting, and then I make bed assignments for the staff. I facilitate patient flow through the ER, admit, transfer and discharge patients. Then we debrief, discuss the day and go home."

What do you love most about your job?
"Flexible schedule and fast pace."
