Metroplex Advanced Imaging / Open MRI
Metroplex Open MRI utilizes the highly advanced, state-of-the-art Hitachi AIRIS Elite Open MRI system. It is the only "true" Open (on four sides) MRI available in Killeen and surrounding communities.
The AIRIS Elite features the most unique, award-winning, open gantry design available which enables us to examine patients that are unable to tolerate a closed MRI; as well as patients who simply prefer an open vs. closed MRI scan. Claustrophobic patients, children and patients of all sizes benefit from the Hitachi AIRIS. The unique design of our system allows a close friend or loved one to accompany you during the exam for added comfort.
The Hitachi AIRIS Elite combines comfort advantages with powerful digital electronics and a high-end workstation computer to make the procedure as quick and smooth as possible. The advanced equipment enables instant transmittal of image data to the radiologist, often while the patient is still on the exam table, to confirm or rule out the need for additional views.
What is MRI?Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a method of obtaining detailed pictures of internal body structures without the use of radiation or radioactive substances of any kind.
This is accomplished by placing the patient in a magnetic field while harmless radio waves are turned on and off. This causes the body to emit its own weak radio signals which vary according to tissue characteristics. These signals are then picked up by a sensitive antenna and fed to a computer which produces detailed images of the body for interpretation by trained radiologists.
The Magnetic Field
Since the MRI scanner has a strong magnetic field, you will be asked to remove any metallic objects such as jewelry, hair pins, glasses and non-permanent dentures. For your safety, you cannot be examined if you have any of the following:
- Cardiac Pacemaker
- Neuro-stimulator (TENS-unit)
- Certain Metal Implants
- Aneurysm Clips
- Implanted Drug Infusion Device
- Foreign Metal Objects In The Eye
Also, if you are pregnant, please notify our office.
Why Doctors Recommend MRIs
With incredible accuracy, MRI can detect many abnormalities which CT ("cat" scanning) and X-rays cannot, especially those involving soft tissue. In fact, MRI reduces the need for biopsies, exploratory surgery and other diagnostic procedures which carry associated risk.
MRI is also versatile with the ability to image most parts of the body for effective clinical evaluation of:
- Brain disorders
- Traumatic injuries
- Eye abnormalities
- Spine diseases
- Tumor detection
- Liver and other abdominal diseases
- Knee and shoulder injuries
- Musculoskeletal disorders
- Facial/neck abnormalities
- Blood flow and vessel disorders
The better the image, the earlier a disorder can be identified and evaluated, enabling our physicians to treat it with greater success. Metroplex Advanced Imaging is committed to the convenience and comfort of our patients, the quality of service we provide and the satisfaction of our referring physicians.
